idk, my bff dale?

This last week, I went bowling with my friends Brad & Jeff. There was this cool older guy who was bowling by himself and he was daaaaang good. After he finished his three games, he ordered some cheese fries and sat down at the table by our lane and watched us bowl.

So, you're probably thinking what I was thinking: weirdie. Only, it turns out he was actually a really nice old man who hangs out at bowling alleys and not a creeper old man who hangs out at bowling alleys. His name is Dale.

After we finished our third game, I was putting away my ball and my new bowling BFF, Dale stopped me and asked if he could give me a tip. I said yes because, well, he had been doubling my scores so obvi he knows a little somethin' somethin' about bowling.

Turns out I "over bowl" and I needed to use a heavier ball. Also, I rush. (Which I've known my whole life. I just feel awkward with everyone staring at my but while I go bowl. Can I get a holla on that one?)

Last night, I went bowling again. I used a heavier ball and I took a deep breath before I bowled. 'Cause my BFF Dale said so. And I ROCKED the socks off of that bowling alley! I bowled a 125, a 123, (and I was a little less rockin' on the third game so, we're not going to talk about it.) I know that good bowlers get over 200, but for someone who is thrilled to pass up 100, I was stoked.

In other news, who knew Demi and Selena were on Barney together when they were little? Um, I didn't! Look how cute Demi is in her little glasses!

go, blue team!

Just sayin' :)

For those of you not from Utah : The Holy War

Also, last night, my friends made me wear a University of Utah hat. How did I feel about that?

Happy game day, kids. Let's go Cougs!

Edit: Now that game day is over, I think I can make the logo a little smaller. It was taking over my entire blog. ;)

black friday

Oh heee-ey!

It's black friday! Do you know what I did? I went to two stores. In the afternoon. So, maybe I didn't have as much fun as all you crazies, but I still got some rockin' deals!

Also, I went to Chinese Buffet with my family and had some tasty Mongolian BBQ. (If you don't know what that is, Wikipedia it. Then find one close to where you live. Then come back here and thank me for introducing you to such pure bliss.) Oh, and we also went to Despicable Me. Have I seen that 3 times in theaters? Yup. Do I still love it? Yup again. (Did I fall asleep in the theater? Maybe... Yup)

Oh, and they turned these bad boys on today:

Am I going to see them in 36 minutes? Another yup.

How was/is your Black Friday?

tag, I'm it

My new blogger BFF eday tagged me to fill out this quaint little questionnaire. It's probably been forever since I last did one of these. So, let's be honest, I'm stoked.

Four Shows I Watch: Sonny with a Chance, Big Bang Theory, Full House (on DVD), & Pushing Daisies (Also on DVD).
Four Things I'm Passionate About: Creating, my beliefs, my family and friends, & music.

Four Phrases I Say A Lot: "Let's be honest", "What just happened?", "holy hannah", &"barf bag".

Four Things I've Learned from the Past: don't catch your falling straightener by the hot metal blade...

don't wear your favorite pants when you might be falling off a train in order to protect your precious camera...
sometimes you've just got to not care about how you look and dance in the rain with your friends
Pants have two pant legs for a reason. You don't need to put both legs in one of them. If you're going for that look, just buy a pencil skirt.

Four Places I Would Like to Go: Rome, Disney World, Mackinac Island, & Santa's Workshop.

Four Things I Did Yesterday:  Country swing dancing, lounged in pajamas and continued my HP marathon, ate ridiculous amounts of macaroni and cheese, & sang Christmas songs.

Four Things I'm Looking Forward to: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Black Friday shopping with my fam, & the rest of my life.

Four Things I Love About Winter: Snowflakes, Ice Skating, Celebrating with friends and family, & the music.

Four Things on My Wish List: a kiss, Cheesecake Factory red velvet cheesecake, a silhouette, & an amazing holiday season with family and friends.

Now it's your turn!
Whose turn?
Oh, how about:
Nichelle  of Vintage Wanna Bee
Andrea of Good Morning Life
& Autumn of Future Mrs. Autumn

thanks, herc. it's been a real slice.

Have you ever realized that if you switch the vowels in "ditto" it spells "dotti"? That makes me smile.

Ode to Myspace.

Remember that time I dressed up as Meg for Halloween? When I did my hair that night, I was all alone at my house. So, I watched Sonny with a Chance and took pictures of myself while I did my hair. What else would I do?

Oh, p.s. that last one, my roommate took of me post-dance. I thought it was about time I posted about Halloween. Since it's snowing now.

tradition

I've been getting the snow report in my email for days now and every time it says "opening soon" and maybe "2 inches of new snow" but today... :)

I have this tradition called Elise's Winter To-do list. I've made one every year since I first discovered blogging back in high school. (Oh, livejournal... we were such good friends.)

  • Ski
  • Make snow angels
  • Get tickets to the MoTab Christmas concert with David Archuletta
  • Go ice skating (and still be able to do waltz jumps)
  • Build a snow man
  • Go sledding
  • Lights at Temple Square
  • Go to Good Things Utah with my favorite cousin, Ashley
  • Perfect my new Chocolate Chip Cookie Cheesecake recipe
  • Make a billion paper snowflakes for my apartment
  • Watch "The Christmas Shoes" with Megs.
  • Go Caroling
  • Hold hands in mittens (preferably with a cute boy)
  • Blow bubbles and watch them freeze
  • Drink lots and lots and lots of hot chocolate
  • Ditto, but Caramel Apple Cider
  • See the Nutcracker
  • Cuddle by the fire (Snowflakes always remind me of how much I like to cuddle)

What do you want to do this winter?

P.s. don't judge me too much on my livejournal. I had a ridiculous addiction to memes.

alas, earwax!

Everyone is blogging/facebook status-ing about seeing Harry Potter. I am green with envy.

Also, I'm making a bajillion delicious pies tomorrow. That's making me a little less jealous, but I'd mostly prefer to have pie AND Harry.

magical

Dear friends,

Forgive my absence yesterday and today and probably tomorrow. I'm going to a magical place called Candy Land tonight and I've spent all my free time decorating it. Oh, and eating all sorts of sugary treats.

Don't be too jealous.

Love,
Elise

wonder

I've had a bit of a rough day. I got an awful grade on a paper that I spent some quality time on and felt pretty good about. 90 points out of 150 with the comment "You weren't even in the ballpark!" Thanks, teacher. Way to make me feel good about life. I know we get to choose how we react to things and choose to be happy, but it's difficult to not let something like that get you a little down.

All the silly memorizing of things that I'll forget the second the test is over, or adjusting my projects/papers to "suck up" to the teacher's views and ideologies- it just drives me nuts! Sometimes I wonder why I'm even in school. I know why I take certain classes. I love learning. I'm really really enjoying my parks and rec class this semester. And I love learning how to do things and make things. I even like writing, presenting, and performing. When it comes to certain classes though, I wonder why I'm jumping through all the hoops.

Yes, I know it'll get me a degree. And after four and a half years of college, I'm determined to get that degree. However, on days like this, I wonder if that piece of paper we call a diploma is worth the silly hoops.

candy and honken

This Friday is our big IWA girls choice fall dance. Do you know what that means?

My floor is perma-glittered.

But look how cool these decorations are turning out!

And that's not even the best part. Our advisor, Casey, has made life size replicas of all the characters from the Candy Land game.

Oh, did I not mention the theme? It's Candy Land. Did anyone wonder why I was going back on sugar this Friday? Well, that's why. :)

Last year around the time of dance planning, Jessie and I realized we were meant to be. We spent 24/7 together buying stuff for the dance. And now, our friends Janielle and Nichelle are in charge of the dance planning. So, it's just a big circle of dance planning love.

Last time we were dance planning, Jessie and I discovered a Japanese restaurant in our local mall that has the most divine honey chicken and lo mein. I also love their spring rolls. When we have boy stories, we go get honey chicken. When we're sad because we don't have boy stories, we go get honey chicken. When we could care less about boy stories, we go get honey chicken. When we break a nail, we use that as an excuse for honey chicken.

It really is that good.

And now we're introduced Janielle and Nichelle to what we've affectionately started calling "honken". And now we're one big happy dance decorating honken family.

cute cute cute

This little guy merits his own post. As much as I loved eating at The Pie, taking Porter's pictures was definitely the best part of Saturday.

saturday is a special day

Remember how I was going to go to Noodles and Co.? Tragically, the closest location is Layton and not Ogden. Now, I know that Layton isn't too much farther, but once I realized that this place was in Ogden...

I wasn't too disappointed.

So, I'll just have to get my noodles fix over Thanksgiving Break.

Ask me if I was freezing. I'll bet you can guess the answer!

The Pie is awesome and they light a candle under your pizza to keep it warm. Legit.

When they call a pizza "Mountain of Meat" they mean it.

One of my favorite things about The Pie is that their pizza is SO cheesy.  Mmmmm!
Now, here's a little trivia for you. Who knows what this is called?

P.s. Just so you all know, if your $200 straightener is falling to the ground and you don't want it to break, catch it by the handle. NOT by the hot ceramic blade....
You can't see my burn, but it's there and it is painful.
How was your Saturday?

idk, my bff thursday?

Let me tell you a story about Thursday. Thursday and I were not good friends last semester. Somehow, Thursdays were always awful. (A.k.a. emotional breakdown day).

This semester though? Thursday and I are BFF.

Let me tell you a little bit about yesterday's Thursday goodness.

I listened to Mikey-B all morning. (Yes, I did just call him Mikey-B)

We spent 70 of the 75 minutes of my PR research class talking about Santa, Youtube, and the Gateway. We definitely only discussed PR stuff for 5 minutes.

I went to the thrift store. I'll share pictures of my purchases soon.

And, I crunched a lot of leaves. Mmmmmhmmm

Tomorrow, I'm taking baby pictures. Of a darling two-week old boy. Also, because the pictures are happening in Ogden, I will be going to one of my favorite restaurants ever... Any guesses?

Yummmmmm!

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to continue enjoying my Harry Potter marathon and eat a tasty applesauce muffin.

awk.ward.

So, on the bus this morning, I was chatting with some cute girls that I kind of know, but don't really know all that well. We covered the basic "which class are you going to?" and "do you have any fun weekend plans?" kind of questions and the conversation died.

Well, since I'm obviously too cool to just sit there in silence, I had to give the awkwardness a little nudge. So, I brought up the weather. Yep. I, Elise, talked about the weather.

Now, you're either thinking "oh, no she di-in't" or you're thinking "what's wrong with talking about the weather?" (Now I feel like I'm writing a choose your own adventure novel...) Even if there is nothing wrong with talking about the weather, it's so bland. Nothing says "I don't have anything else to say but I feel uncomfortable sitting here in silence" more than a weather conversation.

Which brings me to my question: how do you have meaningful 'bus conversations' with people that you don't know well? I've got to overcome my conversational awkwardness. Can anyone help a sista out?

P.s. If you're offended by my poor attempts at being a gangsta', please still love me and respond anyway. :)

the h word

Dear friends,

I am eliminating the word 'hate' from my vocabulary. Nothing positive ever comes from hate, so, I'm done with it. We're breaking up. It's not me, it's him. (Is that awful of me to assume that if hate were a person it would be a boy? Don't take offence at that, boys. I don't mean it.)

Do you want to know why I'm breaking up with the h word? I tried not saying the word for just a few hours and discovered that it was surprisingly difficult. Isn't that awful? I drop the 'h bomb' all the time! So, no more h word for me.

Love,
Elise

Oh, also world peace. kthxbye.

the rain rain rain came down down down

Um, this necklace has my name on it.

I love love stitched. And, I've got a $5 gift card to spend there. It's probably going to take me 7 hours to decide what I want to buy.

Also, I discovered this etsy store today. I want every flavor of chapstick.

Even though it snowed early, it kind of feels like spring around our apartment. Everyone's twitterpated and boy crazy. Frills.

the thursday

P.s. It's the last day to enter the $35 giveaway! If you like winning, you should go enter!
P.p.s. Is it appropriate to have a p.s. at the beginning of your post? Oops. :)

I bought a new necklace from Downeast yesterday. I've been eying it online for about a month now, so I caved and bought it.

Also, I am off sugar and "junk food" right now. Until November 19th. My roommate and I are doing it together and we have a very defined list of can eats and can't eats. It has been going pretty well. We got a Halloween weekend break where we allowed ourself minimal treats (C'mon, who doesn't eat sugar on Halloween?) but we're back cold turkey.

As well as I've been doing, today while eating my tasty broccoli (yes, I do really love broccoli) an advertisement for a brownie Sunday came on the video I was watching. Holy Hannah, broccoli tastes awful when you're looking at chocolate.

Which leads me to a question: If you had to live without cheese or without chocolate for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
It's a tough one, isn't it?

My friend, Emily, introduced me to this song last night. She said it was so good that she listened to it on continuous repeat. I assumed that that was just one of those things you say, right? Nope. I've listened to it at least 20 times so far today. It's on constant repeat. I'm addicted.

Enjoy. And when I say enjoy, I really mean listen to this song on repeat for the next hour and then comment below to thank me (and Emily) for your new addiction.

take it easy, yeah

This is what I'm jamming out to while I get ready today.

Love me some David Archuletta.

Monday, November 1, 2010

I'm a big girl, I can tie my own sandals and everything.

Look how cute they all are in their matchy-matchy Howl shirts. I love these IWA ladies.

Do you want to hear a funny story? Of course you do. I had to ask Janielle to do my sandals up for me when I dressed up Friday night, I couldn't reach them because my other roommate, Jessi, had pinned me into my dress quite snuggly and I couldn't bend over. So, Saturday, when we watched Hercules, Janielle and I definitely got a kick out of the "I can tie my own sandals and everything" line.

How was your Halloween?

Also, have you entered my giveaway yet?
