Soundtrack to my life....

This is actually an assignment I did for my english class, but it's kind of cool. We picked our favorite songs and wrote why they fit in the soundtrack to our lives. Enjoy :)

Life is Wonderful – Jason Mraz
The simplicity of this song is what makes it worth listening to. I think it’s easy to forget how truly wonderful life is. It’s a reminder that opposition makes us enjoy things more fully. How can you appreciate satisfaction, without ever being let down? Sometimes we get so caught up in the stresses of life that we forget how truly amazing life is. “It takes no time to fall in love, but it takes you years to know what love is.”  We are so quick to fall in “love”. The instant you taste Aggie Blue Mint ice cream, how can you not love it? But is that real love? Falling in love is easy, but knowing love takes time. To know love, you have to know heartache. Isn’t it incredible that life just works out? Life, truly, is wonderful.

Take it to the Limit – The Eagles
“You can spend all your time making money, you can spend all your love making time…” How true is that? We put a lot of value on time and money. Some even say that time is money. But how important are those really? At the end of the day, it doesn’t make a difference how much money you made, or the time that it took. What matters is how the time was spent. Time not well spent is not worth it. In the end, time and money are just numbers. The love you gave, the time spent with the ones you love. That’s what matters most. Take it to the limit, give it all you’ve got, let people remember you for never wasting the precious moments.

My grandpa loved this song. Every time it came on the radio, we were forced to sit in the car and listen to him sing it at the top of his lungs. My grandpa was one to take it to the limit. I don’t just mean that he sped a lot (though that may be true), I mean that he dedicated his time to the things that mattered most. He put family first, he took time to enjoy simple things. He sought out new adventures every day. He passed away this past January, and I know that he died with no regrets. He took it to the limit.

Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy – Tchaikovsky
Simply put, this song represents happiness. Happiness, in my life, has always been found in the simple things. Happiness is the first snow fall of the season, or skiing with the family; sparkling lights on a Christmas tree and the joy of believing in Santa Clause.  Happiness is hearing your favorite song on the radio. Happiness is not forgetting what truly matters in life and accomplishing your goals.

Best Years of Our Lives – The Baha Men
For a year and a half, I had the incredible opportunity to be in a group called the LDSingers. There I made some of the best friends I have ever had. This song is one of the many songs we sang, and it brings back so many of the great memories that were made. Being a part of the group really provided some of the best years of my life.

Oscillate Wildly – The Smiths
The feeling that I get from this song is a feeling of movement. Oscillate means to move backward and forward with a rhythmic motion. I enjoy life when it’s full and busy. Not to the point that it’s chaotic, but still busy. A successful day is filled with people to see and places to go. I like the feeling of constant motion in the sense of always having something to do. This song represents motivation and excitement.

All At Sea – Jamie Cullum
Being all at sea suggests being all alone, peaceful and serene, searching for someone and searching for comfort. “Just me and my thoughts, sitting far away.” It’s difficult, in the chaos of life, to just be alone with your thoughts. “To disappear within your mind- you never know what you might find.” It’s easy to feel all alone in the world, to feel like there is nobody that cares. I think it’s important to disappear within your mind and discover yourself. I think this song is a lot about self discovery. The song takes you away to the sea, to silence and solitude. To the place where we can find the most important person in our lives; ourselves.

Everywhere you Look – Jesse Frederick
I’ve spent a lot of time in my life watching the show “Full House”. It’s been my favorite show practically since birth. This song takes me back to my childhood. I think it’s good to take some time and be a little kid again on occasion. I love taking the chance to enjoy the things that I enjoyed when I was younger. I think everyone needs to occasionally act childlike, to remember how to be a child and to have innocent fun.

Keep me Forever Falling – Carmen Rasmussen
As a little girl, I fell in love with weddings. With the beautiful dress, the flowers, the cake, everyone showering you with presents and attention, what little girl doesn’t love the idea of a wedding? As I grew older, I realized there were more important things than the aesthetics of a wedding. A wedding represents the most important commitment you’ll ever make. Being in love and the chance to spend forever with the one you love. I still am in love with weddings in general. I plan on starting my own business doing wedding photography and invitations one day. However, I look forward a lot more to finding the one who will keep me forever falling.
